Google integrates its privacy policies and terms of service

In an effort to reduce the complications of having over 70 privacy documents and terms of service across their products, Google will be combining most of them to make a single overarching Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service for most of its products, such as Google+, Google Calendar, Google search, Gmail, and YouTube.

The changes will go into effect on March 1, with the internet services giant notifying Google Account holders starting today via email, and a link on its search page. Google hopes to integrate its “different products more closely,” and deliver a “beautifully simple, intuitive user experience” across Google products.

YouTube hits four 4 billion daily video views

Google's video sharing website, YouTube has achieved a few remarkable milestones – the site has surpassed 4 billion video views every day and over 60 hours of video upload every minute. 

To celebrate the milestones, Google has launched a new interactive website, called onehourpersecond.com. The new site features quirky animations and trivia to help users visualise how massive YouTube's figures are.

Today, I saw “Web History” of my searches at Google.com and got some interesting facts about my searches !

Well don’t take it as the History of Google, it is the personal search history collected by google, which you search from it. For a long time, I mean from 2007 they are collecting the search history. Not only collecting but also achieving according to the hour, day, date, week, month and year !

Don’t worry about your searches being stored, because google stores only when you have logged in to google account in the browser. You can also disable and erase this web history feature if you don’t want Google to store. You can access your web history from here Google History .

Google Voice Call Charges:

Google voice rates are really cheap if you are using for calling outside your country. What I liked most is calling rates for US which is just 0.01 USD from anywhere in the world.

There are no connection fees levied by Google, you just pay for what you talk. Google Voice Rates page also compares the call charges with leading Internet Telephony service ( Skype).

Calls to the U.S. or Canada placed within those countries will continue to be free at least for the rest of 2011. Calls to the U.S. or Canada placed from outside these countries will be charged $0.01per minute (or €0.01, £0.01, C$0.01 per minute). .

Credits can be added to your account to make the voice calls using Google voice.

Enable Google Voice in Google Apps:

If you’re a Google Apps user, your domain administrator must have Google Voice and Google Checkout enabled in the administrator control panel in order to be able to use this feature.

Note:At the Time of Writing this post Google not yet open this service to certain countries but will open soon.

Multiple Sign-in with Google Accounts

Google offers a handy multiple sign-in feature to help users toggle between their different accounts in the same browser without having to go through the sign-in / sign-out cycle. The facility is available in regular Google Accounts (that have @gmail.com address) as well as Google Apps accounts.

You may use multiple-signs with Gmail, Google Docs, Reader, Google Calendar, Web Search and couple of other Google products.

A: How to Switch Between Different Google Accounts?

Let’s say are signed into two separate Gmail accounts, using multiple sign-in, and would like to switch from one account to another? How do you do this?

 The popular option is that you click your email address on the Google bar (see the screenshot above) and choose “Switch Account” from the drop-down menu to sign-in to your other Google / Gmail account.

There’s however a second option as well that is a lot quicker. Go to your browser address bar and simply change a digit in the URL. When you use multiple sign-in, Google appends a number to your Gmail URLs and you just have to change this number to switch accounts.

https://mail.google.com/mail/u/1/ - Second account (n=1)
https://mail.google.com/mail/u/2/ - Third account (n=2)

Alternatively, you may add the above URLs to your bookmarks bar to directly access the different mail account with the click without using that drop-down.

If you have multiple accounts, you can actually set the order on your own so that your main Google Accounts becomes the default (n=0), the next account you frequently use becomes the second account in the sign-in order  (n=1) and so on.

Here’s how:

Step 1. Open google.com/accounts/Logout to sign-out of all your Google accounts.

Step 2. Next go to google.com/accounts/b/0/MultipleSessions and sign-in using the Google Account that you want to set as default.

Step 3. Now go to google.com/accounts/AddSession and sign-in to your other Google account. Repeat this step until you are signed-in to all your other Google accounts.
That’s it. You have now set a custom signing order for all your Google Accounts and that should save you some time. See additional tips on using Gmail and Google Docs.

B: Set any Google Account as your Default Sign-in

When your open any of the Google websites that are enabled for multiple sign-in, like Gmail or Google Docs, it will automatically sign-in using your default account.

In some cases, this “default account” set by Google may not be your primary account and thus you have to switch to another account every time you open a Google service. Is there are workaround?

View Contents of a Zip File Online with Google Docs

Consider this. Your friend sends you a 10 MB zip files as an email attachment and you are not too sure what files are inside that archive. It could be a slide-show with pictures of cute cats, that you would definitely not like to open, or maybe something more important.

Earlier you would have to download that entire 10 MB files to your computer just to see whether it is of any use but not anymore. The Google Docs viewer, the standalone app and the version that comes integrated with Gmail, can now handle both .zip and .rar formats in the browser itself.
 

That means you can browse the contents of an attached zip file online without having to download it. If there any Office documents or Photoshop files or even another zip file contained inside, you can view their content as well in the same Google Docs viewer window.

There’s another scenario where this feature will come handy.
Say you want to download a zip or rar file from a website but before doing so, you would like to confirm what’s inside the file. In that case, just copy the URL of the zip files and paste it into the Google Docs viewer like in this example.

Google Docs can handle ZIP and RAR formats but for extracting other archive formats like gzip or for opening password-protected ZIPs in the browser, check this tool.

The Top 3 Webmail Providers...

Gmail, Yahoo! Mail and Windows Live Hotmail are the three most popular web based email services around but which is the largest of them all?
The last public stats, released by Comscore in September 2010, suggested that Hotmail had 362 million users, Yahoo! Mail had 273 million while Google’s Gmail was a distant third with 193 million users.
The figures would however be a lot different an year later.
 

MailChimp, the email marketing company that delivers around 2 billion emails per month, including this blog’s newsletter, analyzed the webmail domains of all their outgoing mail traffic and the results reflect quite an interesting*, if not very surprising, pattern.

Hotmail is still the king among web email providers but Gmail is quickly catching up – in fact the volume of email messages (~249.2m) that were sent to the gmail.com domain in July 2011 was very close to the Hotmail volume (~250.8m). Yahoo Mail isn’t growing at the same rate as the other two services.

The MailChimp numbers do not represent the actual user base of the various email providers but if we look at them relatively, they do give an idea of the overall trend.

[*] MailChimp uses double opt-in before adding any email address to their database and thus the numbers should mostly represent active email addresses.

Every body might have got need to find address for a mobile number at least once.You can find address by phone number or by name with Google Phonebook.Just type phone number at Google phonebook search box,you will be replied name,address and location map.  

Google Phone Book: Google phone book service facilitates all the location information along with map.I didn’t find any direct url for the Google phone book service.To get into Google phonebook service just type or copy and paste the switch “&pb=r” with out quotes at theh end of the results page url.It is explained with the below figure.

As shown with the red highlighter and arrow in the url add “&pb=r” to the results page and hit return,you will be directed to the Google phone book service page.

Here in the search box type the required name or phone number to get the desired address along with location map.

If you want to remove your information from the listing ,click the link “ Request to have your name removed from this list ” at the bottom of the page.
Note: this service is only for US.
